Overview

Nora and Cappuccino Does employment in barista and/or customer service interest you? Sunflower offers skilled, on-the-job training in barista and customer service as a great way to learn marketable and transferable skills needed to secure employment in a café or other customer service setting. Learn and work alongside collegial staff while assisting our Café Sunflower customers. The Café Sunflower Employment Training Program includes 3-months of instructional training. Upon successful completion of instructional training, 6-months of supervised paid employment will be offered to candidates who are able to work sufficiently independently.

Application & Interview Process

If you want to apply contact us for a site visit. We want to meet you and tell you more about our program. New cohorts begin quarterly.

  1. Please check out our “Is Cafe Sunflower for Me?”
  2. Contact us at programs@sunflowerbakery.org to schedule your site visit.
  3. After the site visit, we will follow up with an application.
  4.  Upon receipt of your completed application, we will review your application and contact you for an interview which includes a 30-minute hands on interview with the Cafe Manager. Expect to spend an hour for this interview.
  5. After the interview, all of the information will be reviewed. Applicants will be contacted by our Director of Programs regarding acceptance.

  • Applicants must present documentation of permission to work in the United States as specified by the Department of Homeland Security I-9 form at the interview

  • Ability to pay is NOT a barrier to enrollment. We welcome all applications to our programs. Sunflower Bakery works with all accepted candidates to ensure their ability to enroll in the Café Sunflower Employment Training Program.
  • The cost of Sunflower programs may be offset through either participation of the student’s service provider, private pay, or Sunflower scholarship. Sunflower scholarships are provided based on demonstrated need. Tuition for the Café Sunflower Employment Training Program is $3,000. Inability to pay this amount is NOT a barrier to acceptance.
  • A non-refundable $25 application fee is required when applying
  • Upon successful completion of the first 3-month training phase, the second phase is 6-months of paid part-time employment (typically 12-15 hours per week) for individuals who demonstrate their ability to work sufficiently independently).
  • Eligibility for funding through a service provider or another agency is discussed during the interview.
