Please note that our products are made in a facility that processes fish, tree nuts, wheat, soy, and eggs.
Are you peanut-free?
Yes. There are NO peanuts or peanut products (oil, butter etc.) in our kitchen.
Are you nut-free?
No. We use almonds, pecans, pistachios, and walnuts on a regular basis. Other nuts, but NOT peanuts, are used more infrequently. Nut-free items are marked with NF. We work hard to prevent cross-contamination but nut-free products are made in the same kitchen along with products containing nuts. View all nut free items.
Are you gluten-free?
No. We use a lot of flour in the bakery. However, we do have some gluten-free items. Check the website for current availability. Gluten-free items are marked GF. We are not a gluten-free bakery. View our gluten-free items.
Are you dairy-free?
Yes. Our products and kitchen are completely dairy-free.
Are you soy-free?
No. Most of our products contain soy-based margarine or soy milk.
Are you sugar-free?
No, although we hope to offer some sugar-free items in the future.
Do you use trans fats?
No. Sunflower Bakery abides by Montgomery County Law and uses only margarine labeled as not containing trans fats.
Are you vegan?
Although all of our items are dairy-free, only certain items are vegan. Vegan items are marked with V. View our vegan items.
Kashrut & Dietary Information
Are you kosher?
Yes. We have two kosher certifications. Our Bakery location is Kosher Pareve and our Culinary location is Glatt Kosher. We are certified kosher under the Rabbinical Council of Greater Washington.
Are you Pas Yisroel?
Yes. Our Bakery is Pas Yisroel.
Ordering
How do I order?
The best way to order is through our website shop. At checkout, the pickup and delivery options will populate prior to payment.
How far in advance do I have to order?
Bakery orders must be placed two days in advance by 5:00 pm.
Example: Thursday orders are due by Tuesday at 5:00 pm.
Because our Training Kitchens are closed on Saturday and Sunday, orders for Sunday and Monday must be placed by Thursday at 5:00 pm.
Culinary orders vary in their order timeframe. Majority of the items require 48 hours’ notice while the culinary platters require 72 hours’ notice.
Our catering kitchen closes at 3:00 p.m. on Fridays in observance of Shabbat. It is closed on Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays.
For all orders $300+, we ask for 72 hours notice.
For all orders $500+, a minimum of 5 business days.
For all orders over $700, a minimum of 7 business days is needed.
Ordering deadlines around holidays will be adjusted. Please review holiday specific pages for details.
Can I create my own platter?
No, we are unable to accommodate custom platter orders.
What is a plaque?
Don’t want writing directly on your cake? Purchase this removable fondant plaque. It will be sized to fit your cake. Inscriptions are written in dark chocolate.
What if I have questions?

What is your cancellation policy?
Bakery orders may be cancelled up to 2 business days before the designated pick up or delivery date, 3 days for Sunday orders. Cancellations after this time will not be refunded. In the case of inclement weather, please cancel within 24 hours of pick up or delivery for a full refund. Please note the timeframes listed may be affected by holiday closures.
Donuts
Can I preorder donuts?
Select flavors are available for pre-order for pickup or delivery between Tuesday – Fridays. In addition, donuts will be made fresh and available for in-person purchase at both of our locations on Fridays.
Sunflower Culinary and Catering
When is Culinary food available?
Our Culinary Kitchen prepares food for delivery or pickup Tuesday–Friday. Sunday and Monday orders may be possible with advance notice—please contact us at customerservice@sunflowerbakery.org to inquire about availability for events on those days.
Do you offer culinary catering?
Yes. We offer a wide selection of drop-off catering platters as well as custom catering. Please contact us at customerservice@sunflowerbakery.org for more information.
Catering Orders & Availability
Catering orders must be placed by 5:00 p.m. at least five business days prior to the requested delivery or pickup date. Changes to confirmed orders may be made up to three days prior to the event and are limited to quantity adjustments only. Our Customer Service team responds to inquiries Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Please note that Friday hours may vary in observance of Shabbat.
Are the meals kosher?
Yes. All Culinary meals are kosher and prepared in our Glatt Kosher meat facility.
How can I reheat culinary products for serving?

Do you have any meals that are gluten-free or nut-free?
All products are individually labeled with allergen information.
Can I eat Sunflower Culinary meals in the Bakeshop & Café?
Yes. Sunflower Culinary food may be enjoyed at the tables in our Bakeshop and Café.
How much notice do you need for online orders?
We require 48 hours’ notice for most of our culinary items and 72 hours notice for most of our culinary platters. We sell individual meals for same-day purchase at our Bakeshop and Café locations.
What meals are available for same-day purchase?
We typically stock sandwiches, salads, and soups however the flavor options rotate. For daily availability, please contact our shops directly. You can also pre-order from the selections posted on our website.
Pick-up and Delivery
Pickups at Sunflower in your Community locations are subject to a flat $5 delivery fee.
Pickups at Sunflower Bakeshop and Cafe are not subject to any additional pickup fees.

Monthly Community Pick-up Locations
Check our Sunflower In Your Community page for locations near you. Pickups at Sunflower in your Community Locations are subject to a flat $5 delivery fee.
Delivery
Delivery is available on orders of $35 or more within a 25 mile radius. The delivery fee is based on distance. Delivery fees ranges from approximately $8 – $30.
If you require delivery outside our 25-mile radius, please contact us at customerservice@sunflowerbakery.org.
Sunflower Bakery offers delivery Sunday – Friday.
Shipping vs. Delivery
Shipping is limited to a specific list of packages. Our SHIPPING menu includes preselected sets for delivery by FedEx anywhere in the Continental US.
Delivery is available for all of our items and is local to the DC Metro area .
Holiday Pick-up
Before major holidays (Rosh Hashanah, Sukkot, Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, and Purim), we expand our distribution reach by substantially increasing the number of pick up locations available throughout the DC Metro area, even to Baltimore at times. Please check our website a month before the holiday to see the available locations.
Payment
Can I pay with a credit card?
Credit cards are our preferred method of payment, and the only available option when placing an order online. We accept VISA, Mastercard and American Express.
Can I pay by check?
We only accept payment via check for preauthorized clientele.
Do you offer discounts to non-profit organizations?
Yes, we offer a 10% discount to all non-profit organizations with an EIN #. You will input the coupon code “nonprofit”, and then enter your EIN number lower down on the checkout page, on the right hand side. (This is not your state sales tax exempt #) The EIN must be provided for each individual order.
